Psychiatry in 2020: Why Advocacy Matters

Debra Koss, MD is a board certified child and adolescent psychiatrist and steadfast advocate for individuals and families living with mental illness. She is currently serving as President of the NJ Psychiatric Association (NJPA). Dr. Koss has  provided testimony before the NJ state legislature, has organized state and federal advocacy initiatives and has developed advocacy training resources. Dr. Koss will draw upon her own experiences to engage NJPA members in a discussion “The Importance of Physician Engagement in Mental Health Advocacy.” Psychiatrists will learn the importance of building a constituent relationship and how to more effectively communicate with legislators. Dr. Koss will also present an overview of opportunities to engage in organized advocacy efforts through the NJPA.
