The Importance of Mental Health Advocacy in the Current Political Climate

Debra Koss, MD, is a board certified child and adolescent psychiatrist and a steadfast advocate for individuals and families living with mental illness. She is currently serving as the President of the New Jersey Psychiatric Association (NJPA). Dr. Koss will meet with the psychiatry residents at New Jersey Medical School to discuss the importance of physician engagement in mental health advocacy. Dr. Koss will draw from her own experiences in advocacy to illustrate the impact physicians can have on health care design and delivery, working to improve patient access to care. Dr. Koss will offer strategies to assist residents in engaging in advocacy early in their careers.
